Who Certifies An Ultrasound Technician?
Becoming an ultrasound technician needs education and experience. While there are presently no state licensing prerequisites, most institutions will ask you to have minimum one certification before they will employ you in this job. As it seems there are a few requirements that have to be met prior to getting certified. You must have completed one year of clinical experience, but there is more that must be accomplished first. Before you will be qualified to take the examination for certification to become an ultrasound technician, you have to complete either an associate degree course, or a bachelor's degree program.
Once the experience and academic requirement have been satisfied, then there are no other roadblocks to being given the certification test. Upon passing the examination, you will be recognized as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
Being a certified ultrasound technician you can assume to make anywhere from the low $40k area to a little over $60k. In addition to this certification, there are 3 other certifications possible with further education, although one is restrained for actual physicians. They include Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), and the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) certifications. When you have become certified you will be required to maintain a particular level of continuous education to meet the criteria of the ARDMS.
