Some tuners have a built in antenna while others come with an external desktop antenna that is about the size of beer or soda bottle. More powerful antennas are available. Your reception will depend on where you live and how far you are from the broadcast antenna but if you live in a major city chances are you can watch over the air signals in your back yard or at a tailgate party. To watch cable and satellite signals you need a subscription to the service and the tuner must be connected to the cable or satellite cable.
