Gliding overhead the undulating plains that host Africa's greatest wildlife sanctuary, the sight beneath is spectacular. In a moment, a sizable herd of Zebras emerge and through my window seat I estimate possibly 100s of them grazing gracefully under the mid morning sun.
It was an edifying 45 min trip from Nairobi, I think silently as we are ushered into a 4 wheel land rover to take us to Cottars camp. At noon we set out in two autos in search for the big five and soon enough we encounter a pride of lions wallowing under thickets of shrubs away from the sweltering mid morning sun. Following a brief stop to photograph the family, we progress in the un-marked path towards the river sneaking through overgrown thickets. Finally we arrive at the banks of the river and true to the Masai Mara safari exploration; here before our own eyes is a flock of Elephant bulls, watering. On the other side of the river we sport a big herd of Buffalo's with youngsters grazing candidly under the wooded acacia plants. Amongst them are numerous gazelles and a pair of giraffes. Our cameras roll endlessly as we immerse in the moments.
Time flies rapidly and in awhile we turn back to make a return voyage to our camp having had an intense initial ride. Our guide heightens our expectations when he mentions that after dinner later that evening, our adventure continues with a night game drive. A late game drive undeniably is more excellent since that is when you get to see the predators attentive and in a hunting mode while lots of the nocturnal beasts for instance the hippo arise to graze notwithstanding the hazards of this African jungle.
